Readme
hnrepos is Hackertube but for code and model repositories.
Thank you, Hacker News
Thank you to Hacker News for being the site I open first, since 2008. You continue to inspire.
Inspiration
HackerTube of course. Thank you @Karpathy!
Sources and tools
- BigQuery’s public Hacker News dataset supplies the historical discussion data. The official HN API and Algolia HN Search also helped with source research and recent examples.
- The open-index Hacker News archive was another useful source during the initial research.
- GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Hugging Face and Codeberg provide the project pages, public metadata and READMEs behind the catalogue.
- TypeSafe’s Jev helps suggest topics and project classes. These labels are experimental, and the original HN links remain there for you to judge the context.
- Python and SQLite support collection and processing; Google Cloud runs the acquisition and classification work.
- Cloudflare’s static-asset documentation helped shape how the site is packaged for hosting. I wanted it heavily cached and static.
Privacy
There are no accounts. Your light or dark theme preference is stored in this browser. Search runs in your browser; the site does not send your search text to an analytics service.
Cloudflare hosts and protects the site, processing request information such as IP addresses to deliver those services. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand visits and loading performance. Its browser analytics is disabled for visitors in the European Union. I don't want to track you, just see some blinkenlights.
The catalogue is built from public Hacker News links and repository metadata, with automated topic and project classifications. The source links let you read the original context. Following an external link takes you to a site with its own privacy practices.
If you contact us by email, your message and sender details are forwarded through Cloudflare to Gmail and used to handle your request.
Notices
Inclusion records historical mentions on Hacker News. It does not imply endorsement by this site or by the people who linked a project. Projects have not been reviewed here for security or suitability. Metadata, classifications and counts may be incomplete, outdated or incorrect.
Third-party names, descriptions and other content remain subject to their owners’ rights and applicable licences. A licence shown for a repository describes its observed metadata; check the project itself for current terms.
